Mods
« on: December 11, 2010, 11:13:13 PM »
Hi guys, sorry if this is in wrong topic ?

Am new to Modding and have downloaded the " generic Mod enabler" and "lifeboats and debris Mod for Silent hunter 3. The mod file is in the Silent hunter 3 "data" file and the mod is in the file, but when I play the game.... No change.

I ahve no idea what version of Silent hunter 3 am playing, it is from DVD-rom by Focus (ubisoft) .

Have spent all today, loading and deleting files and programs trying to make this work.

Is there an Idiots guide for real dummies?

Thanks
Ian.

If you have installed JSGME correctly, you should be able to locate JSGMEHelp.txt in your game folder. Just open it and read. It tells you how to use it.

Taler dansk, speak English, spreche Deutsch, parle français, forstår svenska/norsk, comprendo español
Before you write me a pm, ask yourself, if it ain't better to write it in the forum. It usually is.

To a new player how to install mods into the game can be a bit of a mystery and sometimes the how to is no help for sure.
I will try to explain it step by step for you and I hope this helps.

(1) Download the mod and place it in a folder on your hard drive where you can work on it may I suggest calling it "Temp" folder.

(2) Most "mods" are compressed or zipped to reduce the size of the file to help with download speeds. In this case the Lifeboat mod uses WinRaR to pack the file so you also will need to get a copy of WinRaR to extract the file this is a free program and can be found easily in any search engine.

(3) Once you have WinRaR installed open the new folder Called "Temp" and right click the Lifeboat mod you should now see a new set of options in your right click menu. Use the option "Extract Here" WinRaR will now extract the Lifeboat files into a separate folder called "LifeBoats&Debris_v4" this is the mod itself.
(there is a folder called optional contained in the folder with its own read me doc's)

(4) So far so good now its time to download the Generic mod enabler (JSGME) if you have not already done so. Now run the program and install it into the Silent Hunter III Main folder  .....
(Not the Data Folder).
Once completed you should now have a shortcut showing on your desktop click this and a message saying create a Mods folder just click yes.
(The Mods Folder Will Appear along side the data folder NOT in it).
Now explore your Silent Hunter III game folder on your hard drive you should now see a Mods folder ready for your mods.

(5) With the mods folder still showing look through the folders and find the "Temp" folder containing the lifeboat mod pick up the mod and place it into the mods folder.
Close the window back to the desktop and click the JSGME shortcut when it opens you will see two windows simply click the mod on the left side and then the install button and you will see the mod move to the right side.
That's it Job done just close JSGME and away you go.   thup1

These steps should work for any mod although some mods are compressed using 7-zip this is also a free program.
I hope you find this Helpful all mods are created to enhance your game play experience so enjoy.   j12
