Escorts for U Boat Missions Convoys
« on: May 05, 2010, 10:18:26 AM »
Hi folks, I'm new to SH4.  I have been playing U-Boat missions & while there's a lot to be appreciated with the program, it does feel a bit like a shooting gallery.  In my first patrol (56% realism) I chalked up 175,000 tons if shipping - all unescorted merchant ships (I replenished torpedoes and fuel half way through the patrol).  My next two patrols have seen similar sinkings.  I can't believe that in 1943 the allies were sending so many unescorted convoys across the Indian Ocean.  Now I haven't attempted any modding myself, but am willing to have a go at adding allied escorts to all allied convoys.  As far as single ships are concerned, I guess the proportion of these could be reduced a bit, or, alternatively, a higher proportion of them could be fishing boats.
Can anyone out there in Mod-land suggest where I could start?  Is there a single editable file that tells the program what the constituents of allied convoys are?

Once I've cracked this I'll post the mod.

Regards,
Forensicma101.

I suppose you play the uboat add on? And that you play a German IXd2?
Then, I could recommend to try OM - Operation Monsoon. It adresses a lot of stock issues.
As for unescorted convoys, it's actually true. The allies did send off some with destroyers because they felt more safe there in 1943. That changed 1943-45, when they found out that the Germans had uboats there too...
This should be part of OM too. I haven't had the time to check it out in detail yet.
