Greetings all!
As a die-hard fan of SH3 then soon after 4, a few years ago now since I looked at those... I recently plunged for a copy of SH5. My god was that game ever finished? Surprised they actually got away with releasing it in the form I downloaded it in!
Anyway since the arrival of kids and my gaming PC m'board died a long time ago, I have taken to running the few games I still have time for on a macbook pro (2008) using Wine or CrossOver Games.
I've managed to get SH5 running pretty ok in Wine (Wineskin), and am now modding it to my specs. My main issue and this is a biggie for me is that the amazing looking mod group by TDW - the NewUIs_TDC set - won't run on my setup! I've patched everything as in the Wolves of Steel mega mod (which I would like to run) but narrowed the problem down to the main mod NewUIs_TDC_7_4_2_ByTheDarkWraith. If I remove all mods apart from that one (with or without patching) I get a crash to the desktop just before the main menu appears. This is preceded by an extended black screen and some looping moody music - say 3 loops of a couple of seconds.
I love sub sims and this game has amazing potential but only due to the hard and diligent efforts of a small group of dedicated fans. I am not touting for a fix, merely announcing my current issues in case some happy soul has previously found a solution to this particular problem and feels the need to speak out. I doubt this as I have searched the web carefully and cannot find anyone reporting similar issues (please do prove me wrong if you can!).
