Well, i have allready decided that I won't buy it in March because of the lacking types and the 1943 end of war.
At least, I'm not going to pay full price for it. realno
I will await to see it in the bargain bin, or maybe if they make an add on with the missing types and years at a fair price. scrtg
The anti-piracy thinghy, well it depends how it will look in the end. SH4 got it removed by the third patch, so it may happen for SH5 too. Only time will tell... shady1

So let me get this right.
(1) You will have to be connected to the internet to play SH5
(2) You will not be able to play any saved games unless you are on-line
(3) The only version of sub available is the type 7 (all classes)
(4) The war only go's as far as 1943
(5) The ships you are attacking will have damage bars showing above them
(6) You will be able to walk through the VIIC and interact with the crew
(7) The graphics of the game are improved over SH3
My Personal responses
(1) This screws anyone who has a slow connection or uses Dial-up.
(2) Kiss the last two hours of game play good bye the server has shut down for one reason or another.
(3) Disappointing as I like the IXC subs as well because they are more useful on convoy attacks having two rear tubes.
(4) So the players of SH5 are not expected to last any further then say mid 1942 then.
(5) Great so when you are attacking a target you will be able to imagine you are standing in a seaside arcade store playing the game on an arcade machine. will this mean you will have unlimited fast loading torpedoes to attack multiple targets at the same time if not then this feature is a waste of time.
(6) To make this worth anything it must randomize the responses of the crew and also react to orders given by the player or else it will become boring to say the least.
(7) From what I have seen this is true but if the rest is correct also this will also be a waste of time as most Sims players will not be seeing it as they will not buy the game.

Silent Hunter 3 (un-Modded) 8/10
Silent Hunter 3 (fully Modded and with LSH3) 9/10
Silent Hunter 4 (un-Modded) 4/10
Silent Hunter 4 (patch to 1.4) 6/10
Silent Hunter 4 (Fully Modded) Unknown I got rid of it
Silent Hunter 5 Not promising at this time for sure
Predicted score 4/10 (unless changes are made) mtzi
So at this time SH5 is not worth buying unless you like arcade style games. thbsdwn

Is not the fundamental problem about DRM This...
If you buy for a game do you not own it anymore.
if the answer is yes the you should be able to play it when and how you want
and not have to log-in to play it.
if this is to continue then you should only pay a small amount of cash to use the server just like playing other internet games sites because this is what it is after all an Internet Dependant game.
If you expect me to buy SH5 then let me play it as I see fit mtzi

Well, I just posted this in the official facebook fan page, naively hoping the message will get through...
Since this is the official page for Silent Hunter, this message should get through. If Ubisoft really wants copyprotection, then have a look at the activation process of Windows. Within the first 30 days, the user activate the software ONCE, and it's validated every now and then when the user gets the updates. Ubisoft should definitely do the same. Much more user friendly. Just a good advice. As it is now - DRM/OSP or whatever - very few will buy it; me included. Thank you.

How about selling the game to registered users
Then restricting the SH5 threads to the users that have purchase the game through legal channels IE. Ubisoft or on Subsim
then only allow updates or Mods to be show in the limited access threads.

Its all well and good going on and on about the internet thing But please take a step back and take a good long look at the videos that Neal has placed on SubSim.
Why you say well SH4 really did not appeal to every one because of the game play involved it had better graphics granted But it never produced that spark that SH3 has still got to this day.
The most important thing about the Silent Hunter series of games is THE ENJOYMENT OF PLAYING THEM.
Great "Eye Candy" is good for the short term but it will soon wears off so if the game play itself is not up to par the game will flop.
I myself will wait until I have seen something that proves to me this version is worth buying and to be quite frank I have not seen anything as of yet to make me want to so for me the internet thing is just one more nail in the coffin as far as SH5 is concerned. computerbad

This would be quite a funny Video if it wasn't for the fact that DRM has ruined
a lot of players interest and enjoyment of playing any Silent Hunter Title. realno
Why some people who don't understand or care would say its only one title.
lets put it this way from the first rumours last year that SH5 is on the way
it was said that the game series was returning to the Atlantic so myself and
possibly quite a few others imagined this would be an updated game version of SH3.
And to see the realised game in all its glory is a kick in the ass for any serious SH3 player.
This game should not even hold the name Silent Hunter to release a fault
ridden game such as this and expect others who are not employed by Ubisoft to
Fix it is ridicules to say the least I hope that anyone in there right minds will not
buy such a worthless piece of CRAP. mtzi

Its a simply shit , that all DRM. I found a working soultion as a legal owner of a game. Look at my 2 posts one here and one in MODS section!

But we have our own skills to pass that. I spend almost all monday to find that solution , its not as complicated as it can look at first time.

For now, I have not bought SH5. I'm too busy in real life to get into any game. But I do monitor my forum, read the posts here, and in other forums, as much as I now can.
I have looked this through, and I have noticed that the official forum has temporaily removed the post from public view to be investigated by their legal department.

However, I have been modding SH3 and SH4 since the beginning, so I would think I know just a little about it, and in that post of yours it looks more like a tutorial of how to play a legal copy offline, as 95 % of the community wishes it, than a description as to how to crack it. A crack is defined in modifying the executive files with the file extension exe. Sofar, I see nowhere a description as how to crack it. Nor do I see links to the socalled crack. I see a description as to how to modify text files plus adding units from previous versions, just like modders have done between SH3 and SH4. As long as it follows that pattern, and that alone, I will allow it for now. But it may change. Only time will tell. I cannot guarentee it. Please understand.
SHMF follows the same pattern as other forums and will not allow guidelines to cracks nor allow download links to sites where cracks can be found!!!

It is purely a tutorial in changing files in a legal copy of SH5.
I.E Modding your own game files nothing more.
as you have stated this is what Modding is all about so
I cannot see any reason that Ubisoft would not allow this to
be shown Unless they conceder everyone who reads it will
misuse this.
Oh hang on a minute that's why they use DRM in the first place
because anyone who buys one of their games is a Criminal as far

Yes I must admit I was tempted to buy SH5.
I even went into my local PCWorld with the cash in my hand and picked it up. nonono
But then my eye caught a game in the barging bucket side of the shelves.
It was Silent Hunter 3 now released by "Revival" software and right next to it
was SH4 in the original package.
I also spotted Trainz Simulator 2009 so down went SH5. clap1
Ok lets sum this up.
SH3 = £4.99 (Free copy)
SH4 = £4.99
Trainz = £9.99
Not bad and that's what went with me to the checkout.
So I have a backup copy of SH3 just encase my original disk fails
A copy of SH4 to checkout if it has improved.
And Trainz 2009 which is a good game I must admit.
And to top it off when I got to the Checkout it was buy two get one free. j12
That is a much better choice then SH5 for sure wink1

It has been stated by ms-Kleaneasy the Ubisoft silent hunter 5 UK Forum Manager
that you need an internet connection to initially log into the game and once you have
you don't then need to be connected.
But there is no mention if one is needed when ending the game scrtg

I put my copy of silent Hunter 5 up on a shelf and attempted to keep an open mind. although I don't know what some people expected did they not read all the pre realise hype that told you exactly what the game will have to offer.
Anyway I would like to share this with you I have spent a fair time upgrading my main machine so I have been unable to play SH5 as I could not stand the shuddering in game caused by the ATI card I have in the small machine.
Well yesterday I finally added the last item needed to run up the main machine this was a Zotac GeForce GTS450 overclocked graphics card and to test it out I loaded SH5 after having a good laugh at the requirements screen that said my Graphics cards drivers were to old (Zotac supply a windows 7 64bit Version) I started the game with all the settings on and the game ran like a dream. so now I have added TDW control mod and some of my own and now I am loving it.
I rate this game with mods at 8/10.
as for changing your view about something that's called getting your finger out and finding improvements rofl
