Future SH5 mods in SHMF

Well, as it looks like an online required game with type VII variants only and only till May 1943, it's very unlikely that many of the old and experienced modders of SH3 and SH4 will cary on their expertise to the future modders of SH5. 

I have a feeling that many of them, myself included, are utterly dissapointed over the decision from the Ubisoft management over the DRM/OSP decision. They could have made alternative and much better anti-piracy solutions like the windows activation procedure.
I have a feeling that only a few will spend money on buying SH5 at full price, and some may buy it from the bargain bin. But who knows? 

I'm glad that we all still have both SH3 and SH4 to play and work with, and that we know how to work with them. That will have to do for a long time, I guess... 

SHMF will continue to host and encourage the use of mods for SH3 and SH4. 
The support for SH5 mods in SHMF will depend entirely on the review comments from old members of the community, whether it's worth an investment or not.

We have working workaround, as well we can easily set game upt to  1946 for example , even.

Well, the Grey Wolves are popping up all over, sporting their GW siggy pics and privateer flaunting his "chief of the boat" moniker. Looks like all the modders are selling out and clamoring to break into the concentration camp. They'll be successful in enhancing the value of this loser game, making it a runaway sales success and then Ubi will beat its chest, proclaiming "We are geniuses! Our DRM is the bomb! The public loves us!"

What happens next? All the modding effort and the resulting infusion of cash will result in the next game being ten times more oppressive. Forget any rights of ownership in copyrighted materials you are accustomed to. You willingly will have financed their destruction for a few goodies not worth purchasing at the cost of your hard-won freedom. The success of Silent Hunter 5 equals the death of PC games that we can enjoy in the future. We can't be a part of that or we might as well find a new hobby. PC games will be a thing of the past, thanks to our irresponsible actions.

The time to bring the concentration camp down is now. This could be our last chance to force game companies to work for our benefit as players, fans and supporters. If we show that we are part of the generation answering Howard Stern's unspoken question "How much are you willing to humiliate yourself to be seen on TV, heard on the radio or play a PC game?" with "There is no limit!!!!!" then the next game will have a very nice welcome screen:

"Welcome to Silent Hunter 6. Bend over, this is going to hurt." My cat has a litter box full of what I think about all this.

Refuse to buy Silent Hunter 5.
Refuse to play Silent Hunter 5.
Refuse to mod Silent Hunter 5.
Refuse to make tutorials for Silent Hunter 5.
Refuse to make videos for Silent Hunter 5.

Everyone has the right to their own opinion, no matter what subject. Whether it's an object, a person or a company.
This is part of the free world, and SHMF is part of that.
We may all express our disbelief in something if we wish to, I'm not stopping any of you. We all have our different opinions about this SH5 issue, and SHMF allows free conversation to both praising and critizising opinions. No change there.

The future for SH5 is uncertain. Previous actions from Ubisoft regarding long-enduring support show us that we should not expect too much. And that it will ultimately be modders who must finish the job. The only way to change that course, is either to boycut completely or at least to postpone the purchase untill some matters are settled: like fully patched so no more bugs are left, no OSP demand and/or a cheaper price. That should tell Ubisoft that it is time to respect their loyal customers.

When all this is said, it has not passed uneffected on me that new people have entered the scene, plus a few old, and they are all over the game to check it out, what can be altered and all that. It was expected. And SHMF shall follow and see what will come out of it. Eventually, SH5 may prove to be a good game, but like its predecessors it may endure some time before it will actually be a good game. First, the devs need to adress some issues in the current game, then the game obviously need to include both the late war and the other uboat types also. Anything else is just ridiculous. If the additions will be in a 10$ expansion pack, then so be it...

Well, I think this thread is slowly becoming obsolete....

SH5 mods start to be more and more numerous in numbers, and the DRM issue doesn't seem to slow down the productivity of the community.

SHMF will try to gather some of these mods here as well. And when that is said, it would really be nice if some visitors and members would start donate just a little bit. If many donate just a bit, it would make a difference. Online harddrive space ain't free, you know.
