Well, I'm about to make a long journey across the big pond, the Atlantic, and go on a discovery quest to the deserts and jungles of Mexico, for about a months time, starting June 28th ending July 30th.
I plan to go watch maybe a Tequila factory and some pyramid ruins of the Azteques and/or the Mayas.
I plan to upload a few photos here now and then, whenever I can get some internet access which is doubtfull, but you never know... sm09

4 photos from sunny Mexico...
of course, it's just my natural luck that when I arrive in Mexico the rain season has started and a hurricane in the Mexican gulf has sent even more water up into the atmosphere so that even more rain falls down...
So a photo of me in front of the cathedral of Morelia in Southern Mexico, notice the heavy clouds in the background. Silence before the storm...
Then lots of rain kept falling more or less without interruption for the rest of the day...
However, we had some decent sunshine too two days later...

I have just experienced a stomach infection and tried to be hospitalized here. Not a very funny experience, I can tell you that much. I had diarrea all sunday and in the afternoon, I had to be hospitalized, cause I was shakening from cold and breathing very heavily plus I had a fever of 39 deg. C. Most fortunate that we were at the house of my friend, whose mother is a doctor and could tell I had to go now. So with drops in my arm, some serum of some sort and antibiotics, I have survived. The rest of the month, I'll probably not have internet access at all. I won't bring my laptop for that part of the journey, so I don't hope I'll experience more of that kind....

I have arrived in Oaxaca state, the weather in this area is much better than in Michoacan state and that of Mexico City where I was two days ago.
In the meantime since my last post, I was hospitalized with a stomach infection. I can go into further detail later. The main issue is that I'm fine again. At least for the moment. sm08
I was at a mountain top today to see the lost city of Monte Albán. Very impressive, made lots of good photos, will have to wait though, in int. cafe now...

I have not been able to log in here for some time. Strange though that I managed to do it in the ubi forums... hammer35
Anyway, I'm still fine. Made a trip on a river through a canyon yesterday. Very nice indeed. If any of you ever get to the Chiapas region in Mexico, you should search for Canyon Sumidero. Try on google allready. It's definitely worth the trip. Will post some photos when I get back home.
Today, it's just a Maya museum and some street walking, I guess. Tomorrow, a waterfall and the ruins of Palenque is the plan. Anyway, the tickets are just bought.

The last part of the trip, I had difficulties to log in here, so I made a few reports on the ubi forum thread only, where I did manage to log in.
Now I'm back in Denmark, where I'm resting a bit at my parents home before going home to myself. I don't know yet, when I'll start posting some photos, but some will show up sooner or later.

During we were in the cave, I could feel something in my stomach, very uncomfortable. It was a starting diarrea. Later it developped into fever too. I had got a stomach infection caused by a meal in an indigenous village, where I had eaten some turkey, rice and mole (a sauce), where lots of flies were flying around. That just made me so sick, so the day after, during the walk in the cave, I got diarrea and later in the afternoon, I had 39 deg C of fever, so the mother of my friend, who was a doctor, put me to hospital.

Visit to Téotihuacán, one of the first cities in central Mexico if not the first. It's huge and I'll let most of the photos speak for themselves... You can ask if you want. We first had a look at the two pyramids (dedicated to the sun and the moon), then we visited the museum, more or less alone, no other turists went there beside one other couple who arrived when we left, then we went back to eat in a tiny cafe, but when we wanted to go out and see the lower part of the city it started to rain, so we had to wait a while, and when it silenced off, we went out to have a look. Notice you can see a river of rain water. Later the rain came back, and suddenly I did not enjoy it at all, and I wanted to protect my camera too, so we didn't look at all of the lower part.

The next 3 photos prove that the people living here invented a kind of football. The original people here were not Aztecs, but the Aztecs later moved in and preserved it as a religious site. The sports were part of their religious life.

Where they used to play a sort of football. Now get this straight: the winner was sacrificed to the gods. It was actually considered to be an honour to be sacrificed, because they believed that when honourable people left this world, their spirits or souls raised to the heavens where they lived the eternal life, and sportsmen would not only live in the heavens but among the gods themselves. When the draught arrived in America, and their water supplies ran out, that's why the people left this city and all the other cities in many regions of central America and south-west USA before the arrival of the conquistadores. It wasn't the Spanish who entirely wept out these people. No rain means no water, and no water means no life. They had to abandon these cities.

So the next batch of photos is from the same day as the visit to Monte Albán, July 17th that is. We continued to visit a workshop for figures made of wood, and then they paint them in many colors. I even bought one, the last one of the kolibri and got it home safe in one piece.

Then we visited an abandoned monestary. It was in service from sometime in the late 16th century to sometime in early or mid 19th century. I don't remember exactly when. However if you look at how it's constructed you can see entrances in both sides. That was made so that the two rivalling indigenous groups, Zapotec and I think it was Zoltec or Miztec, could arrive from each side. They hated eachother, and they are still not best friends today, as far as I understood.

Then we went to a typical regional buffet restaurant. This was a nice place and we were lucky that we didn't get rain while we were there. It started to rain soon after we left.

Then we went to look at a pottery workshop where they produce black pottery. We watched while one of them produced some pottery for us. Notice they still do it by hand and use no mashinery. I bought two small ducks and a round piece used with small candles, but sadly that candle thing broke on the way back home, so I had to throw it out, since it broke in too many pieces. Too bad. The oven outside is however no longer in use.

Next day, July 18th, we went on a new tour, going to Tule to see two very old trees. One of them is around or more than 2000 years old and the other is only around 1000 years old.

Then we went to see another workshop where they produce clothes and floor carpets from sheep wool and the colors from natural sources such as insects, plants, grains etc.

In the entire world there is only three places like this place: two in Mexico and one in Turkey. A "frozen" waterfall. It's water with a lot of lime, and you can see it everywhere here. The sources even ends up in some swimmingpools so that guests can have a swim there. We didn't bring our swim clothes and even we had, we didn't have enough time to stay. The road to go there is a very bad mountain road, and since we had more places to visit we could only stay for a short time.

Next chapter, and lots and lots of more photos to watch...
After we had seen the day show in Oaxaca, we went to San Christobal de las Casas in the Chiapas region in the south-eastern corner of Mexico, quite close to Guatemala.
First day there, at the arrival day, it was raining all day long. We walked around in the town with an Italian-Norwegian couple up to a church on a hill.
Next day we went to see the canyon Sumidero. That was a very impressive sight as you can see, and I even only let you watch a selection of my photos. However, we also saw a sad part: lots of plastic garbage in the river. When we got back, we walked a bit around in the town.
The next day, we went to see the Maya museum. It was interesting, but not that impressive. After we got out, we walked back into the center, where we saw yet another church. And we also saw some local indigenous artists perform a show in front of the cathedral, which even made the children, who usually try to sell their stuff to the turists stop and watch it too.

From San Christobal de las Casas, we drove towards Palenque, from where we would catch a night bus towards Mérida on the Yucatán peninsula.
But first, we went with the tour bus to two waterfalls: Agua Azul, which usually is blue, but because of heavy rain was more brown-green, and Agua Clara.
All of this is still in the Chiapas region, but the northern part.
And the ruin city of Palenque too. That city is btw a Maya city, and it's situated in a rain forest area, so it's very very hot and very very humid air you find there. I think you can tell from a photo of me...
Because we went to see the two waterfalls first, we arrived rather late to Palenque, and well, they close off the lower part of the city at 16.30, so the last 30 minutes the city is opened, we couldn't go there and see some of it. So I just zoomed in to make a few photos, but it's not the same. I just tell you in case any of you will ever go there. If you are in the area, this place is a must see area.
