The saddest thing about Silent Hunter 5 is that it
could have been such a good Silent Hunter game Version if
the person in charge of producing it had not listened to the
loud mouth idiot minority proportion of the silent hunter players
that said this would be good and also it should include this.
all they had to do was take Silent Hunter 3 and revamp it without
changing the game play or interface controls.
Didn't they listen to the users who said that they wont play SH4 because
of the user interface.
Well I suppose at least they realised that most didn't take to the American campaign so this version should go back to the Atlantic.
On the whole sh5 with the current mods available is quite playable
if you have enough patience to get to grips with the new way of controlling the actions of the crew.
I myself find this game disappointing because it could of been the best version yet
if they had not tried to be too dam cleaver.
The campaign way of doing things is just the next stage to the SH4 way of telling
the player what to do it didn't work well in SH4 because this is not what a sim player wants.
Hence the popularity of SH4 never threatened SH3 for the top spot although
sh4 players say it did and that SH4 is now a better game then SH3??  err NO.

So I rate the game 7/10 as it stands with the mods available.

Oh and Yes a quick word on the DRM it works fine for me and I hardly know
it is doing anything except when the Saving Game message pops up.
And Yes I know I cannot play it unless it is connected which is a down side for
sure. but its worth a look.   scrtg

Okay, the graphics are better, but the gameplay is not my style at all.

I will stay with SH3 and with a good supermod.   thup1

Yes you are quite correct and I think SH3 is a lot better than this
and with the super mods WAC & LSH3 this new game is put to shame
But saying that it makes a change and it keeps you wondering what is
next.
So what happens when you finish all the campaigns Well it will go on the shelf
unlike SH3 that will go on and on   j12

Hi Chaps!

After 3 weeks of contact with newest Silent Hunter 5 i gave up with playing further. I ve found this game quite boring and dull after some playing.
Im interested in history (as hobby) , and so but for me , as a game SH5 is a big fail.
Despite all DRM idiot idea, game is extremly simple and brings no any fun in longer playing. As a many years fan of crpg trademark of Fallout's (1,2,3) , i found a rpg aspect of
this game a joke. Look at GTA4 for example, if company decided to add some rpg feautres into sim game (i know that is most important here, but hey! we have XXI century here, you need more than graphics and few simple ideas to have me playing ) it could be done with a lot more invention and a lot deeper.
Games today need a large aspect of immersion for the player. We should have many nice feautres in games that keep us tight to them (look at fallout 3 and it's incredible mod community, look at gta4, look at upcoming western game Red Dead Redemption).
Im about 30's old, and i don't have a lot of free time for gaming, so i demand from games to be extremly fun and i need to feel a lot of hard work from gaming company in game itself.
Silent Hunter 5 is just a product . Its a way too weak title for me to stay with it.
As Mr Seawolf mentioned above, it's not worth of interest.

Ok after playing the game within the Italian campaign
which stretches from mid 1940 to the end of the year
I would like to update my rating shown in post 1

My new rating for SH5 is now 4/10
So ends my interest in this very disappointing game.

My advice is if you like SH3 and also play SH4 then don't waste your money
on this version because under all the great graphics the game play is
total crap and it will bore you until you cant stand it anymore.

So now forget about the damn DRM and look at the real reason
you should not buy this version   mtzi

Just a side note

This game has other issues then the DRM or small bugs
if you liked SH3 and the way the game plays mission Wise
then this version will not be for you.
If you like SH4 and being told precisely what to do mission wise
then you might just like it.
I can say I gave it a fair chance but I do not like it and will go back to SH3
the DRM is not really noticeable when you play SH5 you just get a saving message
every now and then so no biggy there and not worth all the shouting about it.
but just remember you have to be connected when playing the game so yes this is a down side for sure.
Also the graphics demand on any computer is high I hear my graphics card fan start up when looking within the command room or when attacking a convoy looking through the periscopes.
Also my Hard drive failed after playing for a while this may have been a coincidence
so I cant really say it was the game usage of my drive.   scrtg

It just went further down today. I basically wrote that in its current state, an acceptable price would be less than 100 DKK. When it reaches the 100 DKK, I will buy it. Because then it won't be the great loss if it doesn't work out, meaning catching enough of my attention. I have bought two other games that way, and I still haven't really played them yet.

Its a shame really that if People had stopped bitching about
the damn DRM and given proper reviews about the game
this would of shamed Ubisoft more I think.
Because lets face it without the current mods that are available
to enhance this game It would be a total none starter.
The only reason I purchase it was to find out for myself how
the game itself played.
Without the whole campaign being re-written I wont bother with it again.   kaffee

And it keeps falling. However, it's only one or two shops letting the price fall. The ones that matter, those with the official Danish E-mark, which tells the consumers that it is a webshop using a fair-trade policy, still haven't let the price fall. But they may be forced to. They usually observe the trend on that Danish price comparing site, so it's just a matter of time now, before I can buy it too... Actually, I can afford to buy it now, I just won't untill it hits the magic 100,- DKK, or untill Ubisoft removes the DRM, but we all know the last won't happen anytime soon. So let the price fall, fall, fall, fall....

I must admit that I have been so busy playing it and thinking about working on it
as seen by my latest thread I had forgotten all about the DRM side of things
there is so much improving now I have the settings correct for my machine to
play it without problems and its growing on me  thup1
