Waiting for the SH5 Mega Mod Magnum Opus update

I have played SH5 with Magnum Opus v0.0.1 and it vastly improves the disappointing (IMHO) SH5 stock game.
There are now numerous mod updates etc to load/overwrite MO that can confuse the load order.
I have therefore been waiting for a MO update.

I understand that this will happen after  Zedi’s/Trevally’s campaign mod is completed.
This was called Das Campaign but has recently been renamed Open Horizons   
Well I see that Open Horizons open test version was released yesterday.

So once that the bugs have been ironed out I look forward to trying the updated MO with OH
I’m expecting it to be well worth the wait  :).

It's fantastic what the modders are doing with Silent Hunter 5
as you know I released some mods for it when it was first released.
But for me there is a certain zing missing from any other version of
Silent Hunter which in all honesty I cant put my finger on what it is.
Maybe it's because the action takes place around the British isles
which makes me favour SH3 over SH4 which the makes the point
that SH5 also takes place around the same areas.
SH5 can also have the same screen controls as SH3 so no difference
there also. so what is it ..... well to me Silent Hunter 5 is boring when
attacking ships boring when being attacked boring sailing around looking
at the remarkable eye candy great for the first couple of times then yes you got
it boring. Talking to the crew well boring walking around the sub great then boring.
In all honesty I hope the unpaid modders turn this game into the best ever
But will it be to my tastes well there you go   kaffee scrtg

I think it lacks a true feeling of immersion that can keep a lonely hunter occupied, such as:
# Personally do not like too much crew micro management - after all what are those officers there for?
But I would like to improve individual crew abilities (that reflect their in game performance) by undertaking/playing various tasks when they are 'on station'.
It would give me a reason to manually play Hans to be an ace flack gunner or Albert on the sonar.
# Communication (2 way) between U Boats with the opportunity to meet, transfer sick crew etc (in addition to the milk cows).
# Questioning survivors from sinkings and taking the odd senior officer prisoner.
# Identifying ships names on occasion 'in game'
# A type of SH Commander and SH Gen like is available for SH3
To name but a few…...now your going to tell me that half of this is already available.......... rofl2

As you say rescuing pilots or crew from sunk ships would be good then
meeting with other u-boats to transfer wounded or captured personal or
even returning them to port.
When adding items to your u-boat having a back screen that shows them
being place in or on the U-boat.
two things I would have loved to see in SH5

Never checked this but can you load SH5 external torpedo supplies in rough weather like in Sh3, even though you cannot get crew on deck to man the gun confusedeyes.

This always annoyed me with SH3. To keep it somehow realistic, I normally don't reload the external torpedos in rough weather, but wait till it clears up.
However this reborn Kaleun had the worst rough weather almost on the entire trip, which I wrote about. That's just not normal. I know that in Das Boot they had a storm for 3 weeks, and it may happen.
But I'm not going to let a juicy convoy out of sight, just for the principle of realistic torpedo reload...

Urrggh, I hated the same thing about SH3! God forbid those boys get wet, you know! sm08 I lost several targets like that...fired my last torpedoes and then couldn't finish them off because the sea was too rough to man the deck gun. IIRC I had a T3 tanker like that one time, and I was none too happy when the crew refused to man the deck guns because of the rough seas.

Thankfully I was running SH3 Commander at the time, so as soon as we got back to port all three deck gunners received demotions to the lowest rank possible. flammoe
