Windows 7 Sevice pack 1 problems
« on: February 28, 2011, 08:56:31 PM »
On my desk top all went fine with Service pack 1 install
however on my lap top it crashed out on the restart and I had to
remove the service pack 1 install to make it work again.
(had to use advance settings and system restore)
My desk top is a clean windows 7 install But my lap top was
a vista upgrade to windows 7 so I wiped the lap top and started
again with just Windows 7 install. and then loaded service pack 1
and it worked without any problems at all.  chatten

So beware if you have an upgrade version as this might cause problems scrtg

Thanks. My laptop is Vista, but I have an upgrade Win7 disc for it. I have just been too lazy to install it yet...  sm08
A bit odd that they didn't check for such errors before releasing a Service Pack. Or maybe it was hardware related...  scrtg

Well here is something strange the Windows 7 operating system opens
with the four colours merging where as Vista has a loading bar.
After the install of service pack 1 the system attempted to booted up
showing the vista loading bar.
So I think it was more to do with the service pack installer overwriting
files that caused this problem.  compsmash

Generally, the windows "upgrades" from previous versions completely suck. Dell XPS & Alienware's 64 bit i970 laptops absolutely SMOKE my ALX liquid-cooled desktop that ran XP and now 64bit vista (now that Win 7 is more stabilized). I can run full 1950-ish x 1080 resolution with the new dual 2gb video cards and 8gb of memory with maximum settings on TMO, super-modded SH3 and even max settings on SH5. Not even a hiccup.

A clean install of Windows 7 is just so far and above the upgrade, that I would wager a guess that windows ISN'T a true copy of Version 7 unless you do a clean install. The only time I did an upgrade, it simply acted like a "skinned" version of the old operating system, and there were no performance increases, even after cleaning out the registry and startup services.

Hope that helps someone.

(P.S. -- it is way way faster to just do a clean install and back up your old files into a USB 3.0 2TB portable HDD -- I have about 30GB set aside for SH5, 50GB of music and 200GB of movies; it was faster to copy over USB3.0 and clean-install the new OS than even touch the upgrade speed.)

Yes it seems like up-graded versions of vista try to load the vista files again after
restart this may be the cause of the computer hanging or even crashing.
having a clean windows 7 install is so much better and it runs better then
the up-grade version.
sounds like you have a very nice rig it would be nice to see pictures of it and a full
