FIX for CTD for SH4 & SH3
« on: May 16, 2013, 12:44:42 AM »
I came across this CTD problem several times during the last couple of years using Vista and then later win7, and this has been one of the reason why I stopped playing the game. I lost the interest of modding and thus understanding what the heck was going on with my "mod soup".

It then turns out that the problem was maybe not the mod soup, but rather a overall software issue.

The large adress aware problem was to be solved, and well, some mighty fine people at subsim have guided me in the right direction, so I just came back to my own forum to share their discoveries.

You can either follow the guidelines as described here:
http://www.subsowespac.org/the-patrol-zone/give-silent-hunter-4-a-memory-boost.shtml

Or you can go get the small program here:
http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112556

With that application, you can change the original SH4.exe file to accept to use all the memory which your pc has to play the game. And well, I tried it with sh3.exe as well, and it seems to have improved both games, so that I don't get CTDs unless there is a problem with the campaign due to modding.

Unfortunately, it's soon to be summer time here, so I won't be playing the game too much anyway. But I might get back into the game just a little bit.
