OK, I'll bite on that one. My current PC was built by me in February 2007. The timing was forced because Microsloth had just released Vista and was removing Windows XP from the market soon (they said) and there was a great OEM version of XP Media Center Edition on sale at Newegg. Time to go shopping! I ended up with

Red Logisys Special Edition Dracula Computer Case CS602RD-S, w/ Acrylic Side Window & Handle Bar
Rosewill 600 watt power supply RD 600N-2DB-SL-BK
Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard
AMD Opteron 175 dual processor
2 gb kinda quick RAM by some intimidating high class manufacturer
2 x 320 gB Western Digital WDC WD32 00AAKS HD
1 500 gB Seagate ST3500 0AS HD
1  Seagate ST3408 3.5" ATA IDE Hard Drive 40GB (Linux lives here)
Lite-On Combo SOHC-5236K DVD reader/CD RW
CyberDrv CW-058D CD-R/RW
Asus DRW-1814BLT DVD/CD RW
Generic 3.25" floppy drive
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card
EVGA 7600GT video card
Dell 20" 1600x900 flat panel monitor
Creative 5.1 Surround Speaker System
Logitech Click! Optical Mouse
Wacom Graphire CTE-440 Graphics Tablet
Saitek Eclipse II red/blue/purple backlighted keyboard

This is far from the latest system out there but it's been a great and reliable system for three years. I bought it to last 5 years of reasonable service and it looks like it could even go longer than that and not be something to laugh at. I'm at the limit of what I can do with a slot 939 motherboard, so next upgrade is going to have to be motherboard/processor/memory and it'll take some study. I'm happy for now. hura1

A laptop is fine for travelling, and yours looks like it can handle SH3&4, maybe not both at highest graphical setting, but it should be able to play the games.

Windows 7 Experience Assessment Scores scale 1.0 to7.9.

This you write after Windows 7, what does that mean?
MS used to have a pro and a home version, and with Vista some extra versions.
But never heard/read this before. So what is it? A PC aimed for gaming or what?
: Re: What is your pc system?
: Phoenix 1957 June 03, 2010, 06:45:37 PM
If you have Vista or Windows 7 installed on your computer
there is a function in the system settings that checks your computer
to see what graphics and speed your machine can handle.
and then installs the items needed.
you can check your assessment at any time by going to your "system"
settings in the control panel and if you like press update to see if all
is working Ok.
1.0 is the lowest score and 7.9 is the highest.
if it was not for my hard drive my score would be 6.4 which is pretty good   j12

I didn't know that. Hmm... interesting. Well, I still have XP on my desktop, and Vista on my laptop. I have Win7 on a dvd for my laptop, but I just haven't got time yet to install it. After my thesis, I had loads of model photos, I had to edit for a very nice girl. I had them postponed since January, and edited a few now and then, but then finished here in May. And now other things have come up. I don't even have time to play anymore... mtzi

Thanks Seawolf.

Like I say - garish lights - are not really my thing but work only gave me one option of where to buy and a budget so that seemed the best out the ones available.  I don't see the lighting so it's a waste, but the fans are, ahem, cool.

Again had problems with the new build system running slow to stop pace
Changes to programs not showing up 2nd hard drive failing it seem the virtual memory only clears on re-start among others
So a problem with my machine no with windows7 64bit on it
As I now have installed Vista back on and it’s working fine
All pieces fitted in the new build are meant to be ok with windows 7 so I don’t know why
It runs like it has
: Re: What is your pc system?

Ok so all I had to do was unplug the second hard drive then install windows 7
Wait for it to do all its updates and then restart it and so it runs up turn it off
Plug the second hard drive back in and what do you know all is good    profhat

After reading a thread on Subsim about how hot these graphic cards run
I decided to add a third cooling fan to my build machine.
After hours of game play I decided to check the temp within my computer
not believing the auto temp readings I decided to place my hand inside
the case just to check for heat sources the machine parts were all still cold
so if anything the machine is running to cold but I will leave it like it is
as summertime will soon be here.
It just go's to show if you add new parts to a machine that can not handle it
you will put a strain on the machine that will cause it to run hot and as for noisy
you have got to be joking I never hear the fan on the graphics card.
Maybe it was just a crap version he had running.

I currently own a laptop with Windows 7 that was purchased in January 2010. I also have a desktop that was purchased in September 2002 that originally ran Windows Vista. However, it wouldn't play older games such as SH Commander's Edition, and to top it all off Vista crashed, so my friend - who's a computer whiz - wiped Vista off and partitioned the hard drive with both Windows 98 and Windows 2000. It's an antique by today's standards, but it works in a pinch. I'm planning on getting a new desktop eventually, but I'll still keep the old one.

your desktop sounds great but technology moves on and so a new games machine
will be needed to play the latest games

I have my laptop for the newer games...I don't really buy too many PC games, at that. The only series I really play are Silent Hunter and Grand Theft Auto.

Thx de systems above are nicely pimpt  rockon

It still does the job hura1, just one little thing does not work flawless and thats SH5 :D, I am thinking of replacing the 3850 5112mb videocard for a HD6790 1gb.
The card costs around 122 euros. Anyone tryed the HD6790 ??, The 3850 runs SH5 nics when i overclock it big time, needs a lot of cooling so that means a lot of noize :)

Cheers

The GeForce GTS450 runs Silent hunter 5 flawlessly and the Zotac version of the
card can be found quite cheep now so why spend out on a more expensive one?.
There is a thread about this card here ...

http://www.silenthuntermods.com/forum/index.php?topic=650.0 (http://www.silenthuntermods.com/forum/index.php?topic=650.0)

Also is windows 7 native to your machine or did you up-grade it as some older
software will interfere with the operating software see here also.

Intel Core i7 @ 2.8GHz
nVidia GeForce GTX 460
8GB memory
Windows 7 64-bit.

This is an 1156 socket motherboard that takes both i5 and some of the earlier i7s. At the time I built it I couldn't afford the i7, so I had an upgrade in mind. Unfortunately, after almost a year had passed, and I could afford the upgrade, the socket 1156 i7s had almsost entirely disappeared from the market. This 2.8 was all I could find and I paid too much for it.

The next upgrade will be the video card, I'll probably go for a GTX 570 or 580 when the prices have dropped.

The final upgrade will be the hard disk - the one I have now is rather slow, and the mobo will take a 3Gb/s 32 MB cache. Not the fastest but not bad.

And with that I hope to have a decent PC for the next couple of years.
